Discovery of the Pendulum Swing
Galileo was the first to discover the pendulum swing which was used for many things, for
example an accurate clock. In 1583, he spotted a swinging lamp above his head in church and
found that the lamp was taking the same amount of time to complete a swing. He began this
experiment by making copies of lamp by attaching a weight on the end of the string.Using his
pulse, he timed each swing. Galileo finally discovered the pendulum and stated, “whatever the
length of the pendulum swing, the time taken to complete the swing the same.”
